British born Deborah Durban studied at the Wimbledon School of Art in London, as well as at Brighton and Sussex Universities in England. She now lives and works in Springdale, Utah, moving there from Philadelphia, PA. In Philadelphia she served as the co-op director of 3rd Street Gallery, and as a Juror for a variety of shows at the Pennsylvania Fine Art Academy and Temple University, among others. Currently she works in mixed media incorporating book making and journaling.
Work for the show, “Openings”, is the result of a fusion of journals and travelogues, with influences from South East Asia and Mexico. The “Art-To-Go” series are small ‘shrines’ fusing Western and Eastern ideas, philosophy and imagery in small pieces of art that enable you to take with you as you please – “Take-Away Art”.
“There, Back & In-between” and other framed pieces were made from journals of a two month trip to South East Asia in 2006. |
